These squirrels live at an altitude of approximately 3500 m. They were encountered by a team of Australian and Chinese zoologists.

The woolly flying squirrel is a rare and little-known animal. It weighs up to 2.5 kg and its length can reach 110 cm, making it one of the largest gliding mammals. It was first encountered in 1988 by British zoologist Thomas Oldfield. Between 1924 and 1994, the species was considered extinct, until researchers encountered it again in Pakistan.
