Despite record production volumes, panicked demand for energy wood emerged in global markets due to fears that there might not be enough fuel when winter arrived. This pushed the price of aspen firewood to its highest point, reaching as much as 80 euros per cubic metre, while in January 2023 the price was 83% higher than in January 2022. Demand for firewood is currently gradually normalising, and this will also be influenced by how cold the winter is.
Wood prices can still only be forecast in the short term
