On 11 February at 11:00, in honour of World Wetlands Day, the Nature Conservation Agency invites you to Ķemeri National Park on the shores of Lake Kaņieris, where the attractive and creative wetland restoration event – the Reed Sculpture Festival – will take place. During the event, participants take part in clearing overgrowth and use the mown material – reeds, grass, and shoots – to create various sculptures, which are evaluated at the end of the event by a specially formed jury.
“This Reed Sculpture Festival combines the creative spirit of the participants with the desire to do a good deed for nature by clearing overgrowth from fen areas, of which very few remain in Latvia. By working together and collecting material to create sculptures, we will clear wetland areas and create favourable living conditions for many species of plants and animals, including birds,” says Agnese Balandiņa, Head of the Ķemeri National Park Nature Centre.
