On 1 January, the European Commission sent a draft decision to EU member states in which nuclear energy would be classified as ecological. In the same document, it is also proposed that natural gas (with minor caveats) be considered a "green" energy source. According to this proposal, nuclear power plants (NPPs) would be considered sustainable if they ensure the safe disposal of radioactive waste. The construction of new NPPs, as stated in the document, would be supported until 2045.
