In Latvia, such places would first be described as nature reserves, where human activity is restricted and natural benchmarks are preserved, for example, the Moricsala, Teiči Bog, Grīņi and Krustkalni reserves.
Even less affected areas can be found in off-road terrains with difficult mass access and in many forest and bog massifs unused in the national economy, although these were once affected by drainage. Thanks to the steep terrain, deep ravines are also less affected, including those in the Nurmiži Nature Reserve in the Gauja National Park, where visiting is only possible with a special permit for scientific work.
Although right there, on the sandstone outcrops of the Gauja ancient valley, one can see both century-old and very recently engraved inscriptions, which prove that people do wander here from time to time, and the complicated terrain does not deter them from behaviour that degrades nature.
