The largest clear-fell in Latvia covers an area of 333 ha. So-called "friends of nature" are not particularly worried about it. This massive clear-felling is taking place in forests managed by the Nature Conservation Agency in Ķemeri... "However, as the area is very densely overgrown with trees in places, we have decided to help the bog by clearing the trees in good time, as they consume a large amount of water and slow down the raising of the bog's water level. In this way, we will much more effectively promote the return to the area of plant species characteristic of high bogs – sphagnum, sundews, and cottongrass," states Andris Širovs, coordinator of the "HYDROPLAN" project and director of the Agency's Pierīga Regional Administration.
