Due to geographical peculiarities, it sounds truly strange to say that, for instance, deer come out to rapeseed fields from a lake, rather than from a forest, as one usually hears and as it should be in nature. The essential point is that Lake Liepāja is not associated with the concept of a lake, let alone a deep one. One can wade across Lake Liepāja; its maximum depth is three metres.

If the Bārta river did not flow into it, it would be even shallower. That is why we usually wade for ducks and geese, and only rarely need to go by boat. And, naturally, only lead-free ammunition is permitted for hunting waterfowl. Whether we are observing the regulations is often checked by the appropriate authorities.
