The lukewarm and even indifferent attitude of some Cypriot politicians (though they are not the majority) towards Russia's invasion of Ukraine was a very unpleasant surprise, because... as is well known, Cyprus has suffered and continues to suffer from the aftermath of a similarly brutal military invasion, which (the invasion), incidentally, has not yet formally concluded. Cyprus was invaded by its neighbour, which is approximately 100 times its size, and, much like the narrative used by Russia, the invader claimed to be protecting a minority living in Cyprus. This resulted in a long-term occupation that has been ongoing for 50 years. The situation in Cyprus is not similar to the story of Ukraine today - it is identical, even in the smallest details.
