...this situation reveals a general picture that is not uncommon in Latvia's forests. Latvijas valsts meži, which manages half of the forests in Latvia—that is, 1.4 million hectares—revealed that while the volume of bulky and industrial waste dumped in forests has decreased, there is a tendency for the volume of household waste to increase.

Statistics for last year have not yet been compiled, but the year before that, it amounted to about 6,000 cubic metres of illegally dumped waste. Over the last two years, approximately 120,000 euros per year have been spent on cleaning up littered areas.
