State Forest Service continues to collect information on the distribution of large carnivores

Again this year, the State Forest Service is continuing to collect information on the distribution of large carnivores – wolves and lynx – using modern, non-invasive technologies. As part of this process, the State Forest Service invites hunters and other interested parties to participate by submitting photographs documenting signs of wolf and lynx presence in hunting areas, along with their GPS coordinates.

If you notice wolf or lynx tracks, droppings or a carcass in your hunting area, please photograph it. A reference object that allows for an assessment of the size of the track, such as a ruler, pencil, lighter, etc., should be placed next to the paw print.

Particular attention must be paid to ensuring that the GPS coordinates of the location are recorded in the photograph's metadata (in the photo file properties). For this purpose, you must activate the device's GPS location tagging function before taking the photo and wait a moment; otherwise, the GPS coordinates may not be recorded, or they may be recorded with a significant margin of error.
