How important is it to you that you have been able to retain local capital?

There are those values of ours that are rooted in our origins. For example, the origin of the grain – it comes from our own land. These are all locally grown barley. That is one value that we might not have been able to preserve if the investors were from abroad and had a different goal – to maximise profit or buy raw materials cheaper, and so on. The Tērvete name is what we are developing; we are not going out with five other brands that might also be able to generate profit. We do not do that, but rather develop the brand that is known here in Latvia. These are the things we can do thanks to the fact that there is this local capital, that there are Latvian investors. The brewery's values have remained unchanged since its inception. I have colleagues who have been working here since the very beginning, and we discuss these values to understand if we are where we were.
