Latvijas valsts meži Council approves medium-term strategy – the value of state forests will continue to grow

On 14 October, the council of A/s “Latvijas valsts meži” (LVM) approved the company’s medium-term operational strategy for 2023-2027. This is a medium-term planning document that defines the core development directions and goals for LVM, while taking public interests into account.

“Based on climate and energy policy, the development of wind parks is being planned, which is a significant step towards ensuring Latvia's energy independence. In the coming years, there are plans to maximise the production volume of energy wood chips, which LVM sells to heat and energy production companies operating in Latvia. The company's social responsibility policy plays a significant role in the strategy, not only by developing tourism, recreation, and environmental education opportunities for the public, but also by providing jobs in Latvia's regions and making donations to areas of national importance so that as much of the public as possible can benefit. Conversely, significant future challenges include the labour shortage in the forestry sector, the limited capacity of service providers in forestry operations, as well as rising energy prices,” says Edmunds Beļskis, Chairman of the LVM Council.
