Saeima has stalled the creation of a consortium of three regional universities

The Saeima has stalled the creation of a consortium of three regional universities, according to Liepaja University, Daugavpils University, and the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LLU). Last year, the universities decided to form an association to use resources more efficiently. Furthermore, the higher education reform stipulates that a university must have at least 4,000 students, and the consortium could save these higher education institutions from losing their status. However, the consortium is currently not defined in the Law on Institutions of Higher Education, and this is causing problems.
