Inventions patented as far back as 1873 are available for public viewing, starting with a creation by Riga-born J. Davis that changed the clothing industry forever and is still known today – the riveted “Levi Strauss” jeans. Many of the displayed inventions earned high praise and recognition in their time; for example, chemist V. Ostwald received a Nobel Prize, while one of the founding fathers of holography, J. Upatnieks, was just a step away from receiving one. Other inventions on display were also in high demand due to their efficiency and novelty, having attracted interest from major foreign companies and gained acclaim in the press.

Several inventions on view serve as shining examples of their time, such as the aircraft designed by K. Irbītis or the “Minox” camera created by V. Caps. Some historical solutions are even known to our younger generation, such as the extravagant “Porsche” cars and “Pringles” crisps. Patent drawings and descriptions demonstrate the achievements of brilliant minds of Latvian origin in aviation, automotive engineering, chemistry, medical technology, food production, agriculture, and other sectors of the economy.
