This summer, divers commissioned by the Nature Conservation Agency spent several days surveying the lakebed of Lake Usma within the Moricsala Nature Reserve, and the results proved better than expected – pollution from household waste is relatively low.
The survey of the lakebed is one of the activities of the INTERREG Latvia-Lithuania cross-border cooperation project "Improving Lake Management and Governance in Kurzeme and Northern Lithuania", or LIVE LAKE.
Within the Moricsala Nature Reserve, the lakebed was surveyed across 20 sample plots covering a total area of one hectare using both divers and an underwater drone, which also provided data on the lakebed, silt layers, and aquatic plants. When suspicious objects were detected on the monitor, divers entered the lake to retrieve the items.
