(...) In total, 2021 and the beginning of 2022 have been very challenging for the energy sector, as during this time Latvia witnessed an unprecedented rise in energy prices. Policy makers, energy companies and other stakeholders have been discussing the development of more active renewable energy production in Latvia for several years.
The recent situation has only further confirmed that it is necessary to develop industrial solar energy parks, the construction of which would diversify production capacities and stabilise electricity costs in the long term, reducing uncontrolled spikes in electricity prices. However, although the situation regarding the use of solar energy solutions is improving, Latvia still lags significantly behind the other Baltic states. Latvia has all the necessary prerequisites to effectively utilise its solar energy potential.
