A climate conditions study, commissioned by Rail Baltica infrastructure planners, predicts that over the next 30 years, summer air temperatures in the region may reach and exceed +40°C.

 

Based on an analysis of climate conditions over the last 30 years, as well as local-scale climate modelling, the study concludes that the Baltic region will gradually experience milder winters with less snow, accompanied by an increase in other types of precipitation, such as sleet, hail, and freezing rain. Frequent heatwaves are expected in the summer, during which temperatures could reach as high as +40°C.
