Following the ruling by the Court of Justice of the European Union to fine Poland half a million euros a day for the continued operation of the Turów coal mine near the Czech border, despite objections from neighbours and environmentalists, the Polish authorities have stated that they do not intend to stop mining operations.

Previously, in May, the court demanded an immediate suspension of work at the mine until a final judgement is reached in the dispute. This latest decision is the first instance where the Court of Justice of the European Union has responded to the failure to comply with its earlier ruling.
