After compiling this year's bird monitoring results, environmental experts at AS “Latvijas valsts meži” (LVM) concluded that osprey nesting success in 2020 was very good. This year, a record number of 98 successful nests were identified.
The number of osprey chicks to have fledged is also a record high – 221. Previously, the highest number of fledged chicks was in 2014, when the total reached 211.
This year, 8 new, previously unknown osprey nests were also discovered, 7 of which are located in forests managed by LVM. The total number of occupied nests in 2020 is 152.
