The most powerful wind farm in Latvia is planned to be built in the Kaigu bog by 2024

Since September, looking towards the horizon in the Kaigu peat bog after dark from the Kalnciems highway and the high-rise buildings of Jelgava, one can see a string of red lights. They mark a 140-metre-high tower, which was erected in connection with the Laflora project to build the most powerful wind farm in Latvia in the Kaigu bog, along with an adjacent industrial zone for renewable energy sources. Project developers estimate that the wind farm will be ready by the end of 2024. The wind farm, with its 22 power plants, could produce around 300,000 megawatt-hours per year, which is about five per cent of Latvia's annual electricity consumption. It is estimated that approximately 170 million euros will need to be invested in the implementation of the project.
