The most culturally arrogant* Europeans

Some nationalities in Europe have a greater reputation for patriotism and arrogance than others. Whether it is an Englishman remembering the colonial glories of the past, or a Belgian taking pride in their country producing the best beer on the continent, a sense of national pride is certainly visible in many countries. This begs the question: which European countries are the most arrogant regarding their own culture?

A survey conducted by the Pew Research Center, which polled 56,000 adults across Europe, attempted to answer this question. Respondents were asked whether they agreed with the statement "our people are not perfect, but our culture is superior to others". The map shows what proportion of people in different countries believe their culture is superior to others, and there are certainly some interesting results. For example, in Portugal, 47% of the population agree with the aforementioned statement, whereas in neighbouring Spain, the figure is only 20%.

The most arrogant attitude towards culture is observed in Eastern Europe, where Romania (66%), Bulgaria (69%) and Russia (also 69%) rank at the top. The highest rate of all European countries was actually recorded in Greece, where 89% of the population agreed with the statement.
* in the original article, national pride is intentionally or unintentionally referred to as chauvinism, which is described in the text as arrogance or a superior attitude
