Ministry of Agriculture approves the new supervisory board of AS “Latvijas valsts meži”

The Ministry of Agriculture, as holder of the capital shares, has elected the following persons to the posts of members of the supervisory board of AS “Latvijas valsts meži” (LVM):

  • to the post of board member with competence in corporate governance, development and implementation of company strategy, company and team management, company quality management and stakeholder management – Zane Driņķe;
  • to the post of board member with competence in financial matters, auditing, risk management and the internal control system – Jānis Teteris.

The selection of candidates for the third board member post, with competence in the forestry sector and environmental protection, has ended without result, and a new nomination process will be organised in the near future. Until the nomination process concludes, the mandate of the interim board member has been extended for the current interim board member, Mārtiņš Līdums.

In assessing the candidates for the LVM supervisory board, the Ministry of Agriculture took strict care to ensure that the evaluation and selection process was transparent and that the most professional and most suitable candidates were chosen for this responsible duty.

The Ministry of Agriculture tasks LVM, as the leader of the Latvian forestry sector, with implementing a knowledge-based, innovative approach to the management of one quarter (1.6 million ha) of Latvia's land and to the efficient and sustainable management of the forest, in order to promote the development of the national economy, maintain biological diversity, and increase added value in timber production, exports and employment.

In accordance with the Ministry of Agriculture's remit, LVM must continue to manage the state forest in such a way that the public has free access to the forest for berry picking, mushrooming, walking and improving their health, as well as for various sporting and social activities and other forms of proper recreation.

The competition to select the members of the LVM supervisory board was organised and led by the State Chancellery. The competition took place in three rounds. The competition commission was chaired by the State Chancellery, and experts from the Ministry of Agriculture and the social partners – forestry sector non-governmental organisations, the Employers' Confederation of Latvia and the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry – served on the commission. The competition regulations were available to everyone on the State Chancellery's website.
