Given the model of policy-making in the country, where power is held by fragmented, ideologically conflicting multi-party administrations, a long-term development strategy for Latvia is particularly necessary. The current situation, with four parties in the coalition, each with its own ideology, vision for the future of the state and its own interests, has been characteristic of the last twenty-five years. At a national level, there is no shared vision for the country's development. Therefore, the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LTRK) has taken the initiative for a future development vision for the state, involving entrepreneurs, scientists and representatives from other sectors to collectively contemplate a vision for Latvia’s sustainable development. Unfortunately, in terms of strategic planning, the Estonians are also ahead of us, as a 'Future Development' think tank has been established in the Estonian parliament, whose main task is to analyse future challenges and steer the neighbouring country's strategic development. The fact that the LTRK has initiated a discussion on the priority directions for Latvia's development, which will determine the country's prosperity 50 years from now, should be considered a very bold step.
