In 2020, an international assessment was carried out in Latvian scientific institutions, summarising the results of scientific activities for the period from 2013 to 2018. The results were presented to the wider public on 17 March. International experts evaluated LLU's activities in three thematic areas: Agriculture, forestry and veterinary sciences, Engineering and technology, and Social sciences. Overall, it was concluded that LLU is a strong national university with the potential to become a serious international player in the scientific environment over the next 5–10 years.
During the five-year period from 2013 to 2018, the university has significantly increased the quality and volume of its scientific work, as well as engaging in the implementation of both national and international research projects. Alongside this, serious investments have been made in the development of scientific infrastructure, and the university's management has obtained the “Investors in Excellence” quality management system certificate. This significant progress has been recognised by international experts across all scientific fields.
