Both the Iraqi and Kurdistan regional leadership have called on the Turkish government to cease logging in northern Iraq, where the Turkish army is conducting a series of military operations against the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which is designated as a terrorist organisation. The agricultural ministries of Iraq and the Kurdistan region have issued a joint statement regarding this, saying: the environment in the conflict zone is being severely impacted by military clashes between the Turkish army and the Kurdistan Workers' Party, and the logging demonstrates a very hostile attitude.
It has been concluded that the harvested timber is being transported to Turkey.
