To express appreciation to the best employees for their contribution to forest regeneration and tending, the Forestry Division of a/s “Latvijas valsts meži” has established a tradition of presenting the “Forestry Excellence Award”. The LVM Zemgale region forestry team received the award for excellence in forest regeneration, while the Vidusdaugava region forestry team was recognised for excellent results in young stand tending.
“Although it may seem that a forest grows slowly and foresters can only appreciate the fruits of their labour after many years, measurements have been developed that allow us to quickly determine how high-quality and productive the future forest will be. Caring for young saplings in the first years after planting is particularly important to ensure that the forest stand is healthy and valuable. The awards we present annually for achieving excellent results are a testament to our employees' knowledge, their desire to learn, and their courage to use the latest technologies in their daily work,” says LVM Head of Forestry Mārtiņš Gūtmanis.
In forestry, work results are determined annually by taking measurements in areas planted/sown four years prior and by evaluating the results of young stand tending in stands where the forest stand composition formation cycle is concluding.
