The idea that grapes grown in Latvia are small, sour, blue berries has long been a misconception. In Gatis Kužums' vineyard near Bauska, there are more than 500 varieties of grapes that can confidently be compared to those grown in warmer countries.
Unlike vegetable growers, grape growers are less affected by the jump in energy prices, as grapes mostly grow in the garden or in unheated greenhouses. However, the grape harvest and taste quality are highly dependent on weather conditions.
