The reconstruction of the Gauja-Daugava canal is essential for the existence of the Ādaži region and its protection against flood threats. Implementing this project has reduced flood risks within the territory of the Ādaži region and increased the value, attractiveness and productive use of the natural landscape in rural areas of Latvia. The Gauja-Daugava canal will protect 290 ha of flood-prone land in the Ādaži region from inundation and will also reduce flood risks for approximately one thousand residents in the Ādaži and Garkalne regions.
