First LLU Council established

On 26 April, the Cabinet of Ministers reviewed and approved the Ministry of Agriculture's proposal to appoint Arnis Muižnieks, Artūrs Bukonts, Signe Bāliņa, Arvīds Barševskis and Ģirts Krūmiņš as members of the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LLU) Council. Their selection and assessment were carried out in a three-stage competition process by the LLU Council member candidate selection committee. They will join the council members nominated by the LLU Senate and the President of the State, and the council is expected to begin its work at full strength in May.

LLU is a university of life sciences and technologies which, in accordance with Cabinet of Ministers Order No. 655 of 17 September 2021 'On the types of state higher education institutions', is recognised as a university of science. In order to implement the amendments provided for in the Law on Higher Education institutions regarding governance changes, university councils will begin operations at LLU from 2022, similar to other Latvian higher education institutions.
