At the end of last year, the foundations were built for a new hydrothermal treatment basin for plywood logs, so that the basin walls can be concreted this year. The roof of the existing factory building has been raised over an area of approximately 550 m², where a new peeling line is to be installed. Contracts have been signed for the supply of production equipment and technology. The equipment is due to be installed in the autumn of 2026. The new production line will begin operating in early 2027.

The expansion project is part of an investment programme of approximately 15 million euros aimed at increasing production volumes at the Sastamala factory, improving the level of automation and introducing the most modern technological solutions, including the use of artificial intelligence in production processes. The investment will also have a positive effect on employment in the region, while maintaining efficient and productive manufacturing.

By investing purposefully in modern technology and increased production capacity, we are strengthening our position in access to birch timber resources and ensuring competitive, sustainable production in the future as well,” emphasises Jānis Ciems, Chairman of the Board of “Latvijas Finieris”.

“Given that competition for efficient land use is growing in Europe, “Latvijas Finieris” is working purposefully towards processing approximately half of the plywood logs the group requires outside Latvia within the next few years. We will carry out this project with the support of “OP Cororate Bank”, and it will pay off both for the growth of AS “Latvijas Finieris” and for the prosperity of Finland, Latvia and Estonia.”
