In connection with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the European Union (EU) will have to find solutions for changes in agricultural policy, taking into account the significant role of Russia and Ukraine in food production, said Minister of Agriculture Kaspars Gerhards on Tuesday after a Cabinet of Ministers meeting.
He noted that Russia and Ukraine produce a total of about a third of the world's wheat harvest, so since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, this has become a very serious issue, about which alarm is being raised all over the world, including at the UN level.
At the same time, the minister stated that the EU, with its current agricultural policy, has ensured that it is a net exporter, meaning the EU produces more than it consumes.
