“Of course there will be losses, because it is clear that there is a ban on cod and it will not be possible to fish for it. Following this ill-considered decision, we are also unable to fish for flounder. The nets for flounder, salmon, and round goby all go under the same nets. It is simply a ban. To allow fishing with fyke nets and pound nets in such storms is suicide. We won’t catch anything with herring nets either, because the smelt season is a little later; it is just to pull the wool over our eyes – there you go, go fishing!”

At the same time, scientists are still looking for the true causes of the problems with the cod population, as fishing has a minimal impact on it; it is more likely related to environmental changes in the Baltic Sea, a lack of oxygen in the water, and diseases carried by seals.
