LLKC reminds us that the European spruce bark beetle is the most dangerous and aggressive pest of spruce stands. If weather conditions are favourable, there is a risk that the European spruce bark beetle could continue to multiply during this season as well. When the air temperature reaches 20 degrees Celsius, bark beetles seek out weakened spruce trees to develop. "If the number of flying beetles is high, they will even choose the largest and thickest spruce in the stand. To overcome one medium-sized spruce, about 3,000 to 5,000 beetles are enough," warns LLKC.

At the same time, LLKC specialists have concluded that the European spruce bark beetle is present and will remain in Latvia, but in the event of a potential mass outbreak of this pest, it is particularly important to carry out timely control measures.
