Wood surfaces have dual hygienic advantages: even dirty wood kills more bacteria compared to glass; coronaviruses lose their infectiousness (stickiness) more rapidly on wooden surfaces compared to plastic or similar material surfaces.
The survival of viruses on wood surfaces was studied this summer as part of a project at both the University of Eastern Finland and the University of Jyväskylä. Initial trials show that coronaviruses lose their infectiousness relatively more quickly on wood surfaces.
