On 14 November from 9.00 to 14.30, Riga Technical University (RTU) will host the conference “Digital transformation in public administration and the involvement of universities in its implementation”, which aims to take stock of what has been achieved so far in the field of digital transformation in Latvian public administration, to assess digital transformation plans and the schedules for implementing them, and to analyse future prospects and strategies for advancing digital transformation, with an emphasis on the role of universities in this process. The conference will take place in the RTU lecture hall building “Domus auditorialis”, Zunda krastmala 8.
The conference is organised by the Ministry of Smart Administration and Regional Development (VARAM), the Ministry of Finance and RTU.
At the conference, Gatis Ozols, Deputy State Secretary for Digital Transformation at VARAM, will speak about progress in implementing the Digital Transformation Guidelines for 2021–2027 and the implementation plan for 2023–2027, while international experience in planning and delivering e-governance will be presented by Barbara Ubaldi, Head of the Digital Government Unit at the Public Governance Directorate of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development – OECD).
Professor Wim Vanhaverbeke (Wim Vanhaverbeke) of the University of Antwerp will discuss the role of public policy in shaping the digital economy and society, and Raivis Kronbergs, Director of the State Chancellery, will outline what public administration will look like in the future.
Meanwhile, LMT Vice-President Ingmārs Pūķis will share his thoughts on how the private sector views digital transformation, Jānis Caune, Dean of the RTU Faculty of Engineering Economics and Management, will set out a road map of the changes needed to advance digital transformation in public administration, and Agris Ņikitenko, Dean of the RTU Faculty of Computer Science, Information Technology and Energy, will speak about RTU’s involvement and activities in promoting digital transformation.
The second part of the conference is to feature a panel discussion on the challenges facing public administration as it moves towards digital transformation processes, with the participation of Finance Minister Arvils Ašeradens, Minister for Smart Administration and Regional Development Inga Bērziņa, Agris Ņikitenko, Dean of the RTU Faculty of Computer Science, Information Technology and Energy, Raivis Kronbergs, Director of the State Chancellery, and LMT Vice-President Ingmārs Pūķis.
