The “mushrooms” at the roadside are not mushrooms at all. Strange “mushrooms” on segmented stalks have sprung up in large numbers on the grass verges along the streets. Kurzemes Vārds contacted the Latvian Mycological Society and established that these are not in fact mushrooms. That is what the young shoots of horsetail look like. Later the segmented stalks will mature and take on their usual dark green colour.
