The opinion on the Environmental Report for the National Development Plan of Latvia 2021-2027 emphasizes that forests are among Latvia's most valuable natural resources, as forest land covers 52% of Latvia's total territory, and Latvia is considered one of the most forest-rich countries in Europe. In Latvia’s plan for adaptation to climate change until 2030, forestry is viewed as one of the economic sectors that must be protected from the negative consequences of climate change.
The Forest Certification Council of Latvia (LMSP), in cooperation with Daugavpils University and the Latvian State Forest Research Institute "Silava", is once again organizing the 5th conference on 10 December. It covers current topics in forestry and related sectors, focusing on the importance of balancing economic, sustainable development, as well as social, environmental, and economic aspects in the era of climate change.
