Slightly more than a third of all companies in the TOP 100 largest taxpayers list are based in Riga, while trade is the most widely represented sector, according to data compiled by Lursoft. The trade sector also includes the country's largest taxpayers – SIA “Circle K Latvia”, SIA “Neste Latvija” and SIA “ORLEN Latvija”. Both of the largest fuel retailers paid more in taxes last year than the year before, whereas the amount of taxes paid by SIA “ORLEN Latvija” fell by 22.2% compared to 2019. The annual report available to Lursoft shows that the company's turnover fell by 44.3% in 2020.

The TOP 100 largest taxpayers paid a total of 2.71 billion euros in taxes administered by the State Revenue Service (VID) in 2020. Although the total sum these companies paid in tax payments to the state budget increased by 28.21 million EUR compared to 2019, Lursoft data shows that 41 of the companies represented in the TOP 100 list saw their tax contributions fall last year compared to the year before. In some cases, the drop in tax contributions was significant.

For example, VAS “Latvijas dzelzceļš” paid 73.98 million EUR in tax payments to the state budget in 2019, but last year this sum was halved to 35.49 million EUR. Compared to the year before, the company's turnover decreased by 14.59% last year, sliding to 156.54 million EUR, and the company closed the financial year with 0 euros in profit. Information available to Lursoft shows that the number of VAS “Latvijas dzelzceļš” employees fell significantly last year. While the company employed 6,379 workers in 2019, it employed 5,383 last year. Along with the drop in the number of employees, the sum the company paid in personal income tax and mandatory state social insurance contributions last year also decreased. The volume of personal income tax paid by VAS “Latvijas dzelzceļš” fell by 36.31% over the year, while the volume of mandatory state social insurance contributions fell by 42.45%.
