(...) it still happens that one encounters completely unique people – the last in their village, yet who remember everything perfectly. And the main thing is that the memories of such people have no political or ideological layers. He lives with his own memories and thoughts and tells everything just as he saw it. In Cēsis, we met Nanija Sproģe, who lived in the Tilža area in her youth and experienced and heard everything that happened there in the post-war years.
Mrs Sproģe’s memories have a significant place in this book. Such stories immediately fit into what you have previously read in documents but have not been able to fully understand. That is, for example, the sad, tragic story of the boy who was accidentally shot by partisans on a forest road near Krišjāņi village in Tilža parish, because the local head of the war desk, Maļutins, had seated him on a bicycle in front of him and even hung a submachine gun around his neck.
