Textile recycling as a new and undiscovered business niche in Latvia

(...) It is necessary to build cooperation between textile manufacturing, trading, rental, and recycling companies, creating zero-waste life cycles for textile materials. One company cannot do this alone, but several companies can.

For example, “Lindstrom” has a production facility in Tukums that manufactures clothing by purchasing fabrics. The facility could purchase fabrics made from recycled textiles. We have signed a contract with the Finnish company “Rester”, which processes worn-out clothing into new fibres. We can then purchase these new fibres and manufacture new clothing from them. That would be one material life cycle. It is thought that governments need to promote this type of cooperation – first and foremost by explaining why it is necessary. In Europe, circular economy ideas have been discussed for at least 20 years. In Latvia, an understanding of this has begun to emerge over the last 4-5 years.
