Tapes on trees

Sound artist and musician Andris Indāns (1973) created the audiovisual work "Tapes on Trees" during the lockdown period. It is a video version of the sound installation of the same name, which Indāns created in the woodland behind his country home in the village of Rubeņi by wrapping trees in 1970s computer magnetic tape.

 

In windy weather, as the tapes flutter, their vibrations create a peculiar music that blends tonally with and complements the forest soundscape.

The soundtrack of the "Tapes on Trees" video is supplemented with the mating calls of black grouse and sounds from the analogue synthesiser SYNTRX by the Latvian manufacturer Erica Synths...
