Scandinavian countries, especially Sweden, have always been considered drivers of progress, serving as a model for other nations. This also applies to mobility issues and the electric vehicle sector. Environmentally friendly transport in Sweden grew at such a rapid pace that subsidies for their purchase are being abolished without replacement. This means that buyers of plug-in hybrids and fully electric vehicles who place their orders after 8 November will no longer be eligible for state support.

The Scandinavian government explains this by pointing to the market situation, where vehicles qualifying for climate bonuses account for about half of new car sales and are available across most price ranges. Furthermore, the costs of purchasing and driving an environmentally friendly car are now comparable to those of a combustion-engine vehicle. Consequently, climate bonuses are no longer justified.
