To support the training of new specialists for the labour market, “Stiga RM”, one of the leading companies in the timber industry, has entered into a cooperation agreement with Ventspils Technical School. As part of it, “Stiga RM” will work on matters of educational content, deliver work-based learning, provide placements, take part in various teaching processes, and participate in industry-related events.

“Cooperation of this kind bears fruit over the long term. Our young people are our future – they are the ones who will go on building Latvia into a country that is competitive and able to export, creating high value-added products. That is why we are ready to invest in it – this will not only develop a range of competences and skills in future specialists, but will also improve the availability of a quality workforce and make its own contribution to the overall development of Latvia’s economy. The timber industry needs car mechanics, mechatronics technicians, fitters and welders, and these are precisely the specialists that Ventspils Technical School trains. “The technical school and the company share a common vision of our future cooperation and of the specific steps to be taken. So that the school’s students gain as broad an understanding as possible of the industry and of the company’s work, study visits will be organised. Work-based learning – placements, during which the latest technologies will be used – is also being planned. As part of the cooperation we will likewise organise a professional skills competition and develop the professional competences of the school’s teaching staff. We will all be the winners – Ventspils Technical School students will gain practical experience at the company, while the company will have access to well-prepared and highly qualified employees.
