On 10 August, the government decided to support the design of a combined road and Rail Baltica railway bridge over the Daugava. The project involves the construction of a new combined road and railway bridge over the Daugava near Salaspils and the associated road infrastructure.
The combined two-level bridge over the Daugava will integrate railway infrastructure on the lower level and road transport infrastructure on the upper level. The railway level will include two high-speed rail lines, allowing trains to travel at a speed of 249 km/h. Meanwhile, for road transport, two separate carriageways with two lanes in each direction are planned. The road bridge infrastructure includes the construction of bridge approaches, a multi-level junction with the main national road A6 Riga-Daugavpils-Krāslava-Belarus border (Pāternieki), and a new multi-level junction with the regional road P85 Riga HES-Jaunjelgava.
