Employees of A/s “Latvijas valsts meži” (LVM) find not only bottles, bags and other rubbish, but also various bulky waste – household appliances, furniture, sanitary ware, construction debris, etc. According to LVM’s experience, collecting one cubic metre of waste in the forest costs more than disposing of it in landfill sites, and the process is even more expensive if the waste is scattered over a large area (on average, waste collection in the forest costs 45 euros/m3).

Municipalities are responsible for organising the management of household waste within their administrative territory. It must be admitted that they are doing what they can, but there are certain places where waste is dumped regularly and in large quantities, so there is clearly still something wrong with the system.
