On 17 March, State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Ģirts Krūmiņš met representatives of Ukraine's Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, the State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine and the State Ecological Inspectorate to discuss Latvia's experience in building a sustainable forestry model and the potential for cooperation with representatives of Ukraine's forest sector.
The officials discussed Latvia's experience of integration into the European Union (EU), implementing the requirements of the EU regulation on timber harvesting, and also considered the introduction of digital solutions in forestry, including the importance of remote sensing and data exchange in the monitoring and control of forestry activities.
During its visit to Latvia, the Ukrainian delegation will also learn about the work of AS “Latvijas Valsts meži”, the State Forest Service, the Rural Support Service and other institutions in the sector.
