Solutions for achieving Latvia's climate goals must be sought in cooperation with industries

On 17 June, at a meeting of the National Tripartite Cooperation Council (NTSP), the government and social partners – the Employers' Confederation of Latvia (LDDK) and the Free Trade Union Confederation of Latvia (LBAS) – discussed Latvia's climate goals, the improvement of the remuneration system in the healthcare sector, and a review of the implementation deadline for the minimum mandatory state social insurance contributions (VSAOI).

While discussing the set climate goals for Latvia, the LDDK pointed out that the existing sectoral policy planning documents lack precise action plans that would reflect specific actions, calculations, costs, and their impacts. The LDDK called on the Prime Minister to activate the work of the National Energy and Climate Council in order to continue discussions on these issues within its framework, and also to expand the council's competence and mandate so that, in addition to energy, it can purposefully work on nationally significant issues in the climate field such as land use (LULUCF and non-ETS agriculture), transport, and waste management.
