Targeted forestry in Northern Europe, including Latvia, can significantly help to mitigate climate change, researcher Āris Jansons from the Latvian State Forest Research Institute (LVMI) “Silava” stated on Wednesday at the international forest sector conference “Climate, Future, Forests”.
He predicted that the total economic value of European forests will decline in the future and there will be more various natural disturbances in the forest, which will lead to a decrease in the proportion of large trees.
