Thermally modified timber can be treated with a number of products already available on the market, to which iron oxides must be added. By using thermal modification and more environmentally friendly coatings, it is possible to avoid chemical protection. The institute has also developed an original approach to the life cycle inventory of pine and birch grown in Latvia.
