The desire to generate electricity using solar panel power plants exceeds the capacity of the a/s “Sadales tīkls” system to accept all this energy into the grid, which is why refusals for solar panel installations are to be expected, “TV3 ziņas” reported on Wednesday.

Concern has been expressed, for example, by the Preiļi Municipality Council, as there is practically no spare generation capacity left in the municipality.

The council wishes to install solar panel power plants on the roofs of 24 Preiļi municipal buildings. They could be used to reduce the electricity bill, which is currently around 100,000 euros per month for all the district's institutions combined. Aigars Zīmelis, Executive Director of the Preiļi Municipality Council, points out that the municipality's savings would be between 15,000 and 20,000 euros, but the project has stalled.

“Although the Preiļi Municipality has received permits from the Ministry of Economics (EM) for the installation of solar panels at 12 sites this year, the spare available capacity for “Sadales tīkls” is currently at practically absolute zero,” explains A. Zīmelis. (...)
